What EFT Buddy stores, and where
There are no accounts, no logins, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts. Almost everything the site remembers about you is stored in your own browser and never leaves it.
Stored on your device
eft_buddy_state_v2 · local storage
Your progress: completed quests, watchlists, flea favourites and hideout levels. This is the only durable copy — it is not stored on the server. It is sent to the server while you have the site open, so pages can be rendered correctly for you, and is discarded there when your session ends.
eft_prefs · cookie, 1 year
Your HUD settings: PMC level, scav karma, faction, game mode and whether the nav rail is collapsed. Readable by the page itself so your settings apply before anything loads.
_eft_buddy_key · cookie, 90 days
A signed cookie holding one random, opaque identifier. It is not linked to a name, an email or an account, and it exists only so the server can match you to your own in-memory session while you browse. It is strictly necessary for the site to function.
Stored on the server
Your progress and settings are held in memory only while you are using the site, and for a short period afterwards so a reload does not lose your place. They are never written to the database. If the server restarts, they are gone and your browser re-supplies them.
Like any web server, request logs record IP addresses.
Bug reports
The Report a Bug form stores exactly two things: the title and the description you type. There is no name field and no contact field, so there is no reply path — please do not include personal details in the description, because whatever you type is what gets stored.
Content loaded from elsewhere
Item icons, quest banners, map artwork and wiki screenshots are loaded directly from tarkov.dev and the Escape from Tarkov Wiki (Fandom) rather than copied onto this server. Your browser therefore contacts those sites directly, which discloses your IP address to them. Their own privacy policies apply to that. Fonts are self-hosted here, so they involve no third party.
Taking your data, and erasing it
Because everything durable lives in your browser, you control it directly. Use the Backup menu in the top bar:
- Export downloads everything the site holds about you as a single JSON file.
- Reset progress erases the local storage blob and the preferences cookie, and clears the server-side session immediately.
Clearing site data in your browser has the same effect. Note that a bug report you have already submitted cannot be located and deleted this way, because nothing in it identifies you — if you need one removed, quote its title in an email.
